The giant preying mantis is a landmark along Fremont Street in Las Vegas. Officially known as The Mantis, this towering kinetic sculpture stands in front of the Container Park in the Fremont East District.

Originally built for the Burning Man festival, The Mantis was created by artist Kirk Jellum, an aerospace engineer. The sculpture is 40 feet tall, made of steel, and features a flame-throwing mechanism that shoots fire up to six stories high from its antennae, lighting up the night sky in bursts of heat and color.

A favorite time to photograph this landmark is after sunset, when The Mantis comes alive with fire and music. The best spot to capture its full height and glowing flames is from across Fremont Street, where you can frame it against the neon of downtown Las Vegas. This view was taken shortly after noon.

Address: 707 Fremont Street, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
