Description: The Arc de Triomf was built in 1888 as the main entrance to the Exposición Universal de Barcelona.

This beautiful arch was designed by the Catalan architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas in what is known as the Mudéjar style, which has its origins in Moorish architecture. The glazed red brickwork is adorned with sculptures by Josep Reynés, Josep Llimona and Manel Fuxa.

The distinctive 30-meter high landmark is situated at the end of a wide pedestrian boulevard, the Passeig de Luis Company. Hundreds of people pass through the portal each day, on their way to Barcelona’s urban oasis, the Parc de la Ciutadella.

Photographing This Landmark: This particular view of the arch is best photographed in the morning. The other side of the arch is better in late afternoon. We used a 70-300mm telephoto lens so we could include people in the foreground. We shot handheld, but this would be a great night time shot with a tripod and a long exposure. There is plenty of room to set up a tripod.
